Our Presidential Poet
Oh my. This is so embarrasing even I felt sorry for Bush. Really.
Apparently while she was off for five days in France, George was feeling creative and presented her with a poem when he returned. Laura Bush*Does anyone else think that picture of her looks kind of like Conan O’Brien when he’s making one of his faces? actually reads the poem at a National Book Festival. I don’t know who was more horrified, Bush or the librarians of Congress that were present. If it was me, I would be updating our Library of Congress website immediately, adding “For the interest of our patrons which might have been influenced by the poetry reading at our gala, we must take this opportunity to point out that the Library of Congress also contains good poetry.”
And here it is…
Violets are blue
Oh my, lump in the bed
How I’ve missed you.
Roses are redder
Bluer am I
Seeing you kissed by that charming French guy.
The dogs and the cat, they missed you too
Barney’s still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe
The distance, my dear, has been such a barrier
Next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier.
Aren’t you glad we have an educated president?
Also, I think that if somebody interviews Dubya in fifteen years and asks what was his favorite memory of presidency, he will probably mention landing on a carrier.
In case CNN removes that image:

Oh. My. God.
I kept looking for something on that page to indicate that it was a joke. Something. ANYTHING!
This is the “ruler of the free world”?
I’m gonna go cry now.

cry, yes. I did, literally, start crying when I found and read that article at CNN.com.
