Changing their tune

This whole Iraq WMD thing is getting stupid. David Kay, the former US chief inspector, had said earlier that Iraq “had an intention to continue to pursue their WMD activities” but nothing more. He gave doubt that any weapons stockpiles would ever be found — that they simply didn’t exist.

Now US and Britain, Bush’s favorite toady, are trying to downplay the statement:

White House officials and British ministers on Monday both said the removal of the Iraqi dictator justified the war regardless of whether he ever had banned weapons.

So now they aren’t even interested in defending the misleading information (dare I say it: lies), but only in justifying their actions in any way possible. This is the political version of guessing the answer to a riddle or joke correctly, and after being told it was the correct answer saying, “See I knew that all along.”

Stupid politicians.

Also, the budget office has predicted an annual deficit of $477 Billion. Well, gee, that makes the $6 Trillion national deficit seem not too bad after all. I mean, at this rate we could make $6 Trillion in about 13 years. Just over three presidential terms! But then when you realize that the $6 Trillion has been growing for a lot longer it really brings it into perspective.

And spent on what? To say afterward, “See I knew that all along?”
