The devil went down to Georgia…

…and apparently used the word ‘evolution’ once or twice. Well, regardless of what lunacy brought this on, the State Superintendant of Georga, Kathy Cox, has proposed removing the word ‘evolution’ from the curriculum in Georgian schools. Not that they won’t teach evolution, they just won’t use that word. According to CNN, “the proposal would not require schools to buy new textbooks omitting the word evolution and would not prevent teachers from using it.” Well, I fail to see any point whatsoever, then.

13% of users in the CNN poll agreed with the proposal.

This, of course, is so preposterous I won’t bore you with my own view on the matter. But I thought it would be funny to show a couple of other responses.

“Here we are, saying we have to improve standards and improve education, and we’re just throwing a bone to the conservatives with total disregard to what scientists say.”
– Rep. Bob Holmes, GA (D)

“If you’re teaching the concept without the word, what’s the point? It’s stupid. It’s like teaching gravity without using the word gravity.”
– Rep. Bobby Franklin, GA (R)

“As a Christian, a trained engineer and scientist, and a professor at Emory University, I am embarrassed by Superintendent Kathy Cox’s attempt to censor and distort the education of Georgia’s students. … There is no need to teach that stars can fall out of the sky and land on a flat Earth in order to defend our religious faith.”
– Former President and Nobel laureate Jimmy Carter
