Schwarzeneggar in ‘08?
The truth is getting closer and closer to fiction. Remember the Sylvester Stallone movie Demolition Man? One of the jokes in the movie was that Arnold Schwarzeneggar had been president after an amendment was passed that allowed foreign-born citizens to run for president. I believe it was Sandra Bullock who responded to Stallone’s surprise, that said, “Wasn’t he an actor before he was president?”
Well guess what?
Schwarzennegar recently made his gubernatorial talk show debute. He is interested in supporting a constitutional amendment to allow foreign-born citizens who had been citizens for 20 years or more to run for president. He makes a good point, mentioning the wonderful services of Henry Kissinger and Madelaine Albright made during their roles as Secretary of State. And, for the record, I’m not opposed to this at all. I think any citizen should get to run for president. If they aren’t trustworthy or whatever the restriction originally implied, they simply won’t win the election. It will come out eventually, and the people will know. The political process is full of fail-safes.
But I am a little worried that we will see Schwarzeneggar in a ticket sometime in the future. Very…scary….
