Quick edit!
It’s not often, but I updated my cartoon post-publication this morning. So if you saw it before 9:00 CST, try hitting refresh and seeing if the cartoon changes. Why did I change it? Interesting coincidence.
I was making fun of Connecticut Gov. Rowland, who is under investigation for possible missappropriation of funds by accepting several ‘gifts’ by state contractors and employees. From what I remember of the details, something like building him a new house or something. So in my cartoon, I had to choose a state contractor job to reference, and decided that interstate worker was a good one. I pulled up MapPoint and looked to see what interstates ran through Connecticut, and it looked like the big ones were I-95 and I-84 … I chose to reference I-84.
But coincidence, there was a massive accident on an interstate in Connecticut this morning — a tanker truck spilled gas all over the interstate, which ignited and basically melted an overpass. The traffic is going to have to be routed through rural road for about two weeks while the interstate is being repaired (fortunately nobody was killed and nobody was seriously injured). But it was on I-95.
So my cartoon had actually accidentally touched on two news stories, even before I knew it. The only problem was that I had referenced the wrong interstate! But fortunately, internet publishing is great for updating things after they’ve been published!
So, long story short, I updated the cartoon….
