Clumsy grace

Do you ever have those clumsy moments, where you might pull off something particularly good to get out of them? You might not feel better than if you hadn’t've done the clumsy thing to begin with, but you certainly feel better than if you hadn’t pulled out of it. Example: you’re walking on the sidewalk in winter and you hit an icy patch. Vwoop! There go your legs! But somehow you’re able to maintain your balance and get your legs back on the ground. And, you do it smoothly. Tada! Nice trick, right?

Well, of course since I did bring this up, a similar incidence did just happen to me. Many times a day I get up from my work and fix myself a cup of hot tea upstairs in the kitchen. I take the tea downstairs and drink it while I work. I’m normally pretty good about not spilling it while walking down the stairs. But I haven’t had terribly good luck with stairs lately. I tend to get my slippers caught on the carpet. So here I come, with my recently-boiling cup of tastily flavored water, tra la-la la-la. I’m four stairs from the landing and oops! There goes my slippers again. I do a funny dance, push myself forward, grab the banister (which is pole-like, all the way up to the ceiling), and spin around it. I land smoothly on tip-toes ala Gene Kelly and walk cleanly away from it toward my desk, without spilling a drop of tea!

Tada!
