Suddenly tired
We just walked to the library and back — and on the way there I was carrying probably 18 lbs. of books. Now, it’s not a very long trip. And 18 lbs is not a lot of weight. But somehow, when you combine the two, and throw in a dash of I’m-in-terrible-terrible-shape, it really wore me out. Gave me those post-exercise shakes you get sometimes. Sigh. When we move into our house, we’ll actually have a place for exercise equipment (yay) and we’ll have to go to this massive Goodwill in Olathe. They have a lot of various pieces of exercise equipment for $30-$40 each. Then we’ll have to seriously get in shape. (Jen’s is much better shape than I am — since she’ll lose 10 or 20 lbs. of her new weight all at once, and I won’t…. [we ended up gaining almost exactly the same weight since we got pregnant!])
Fortunately, we’ll have a grocery store within casual walking distance again, so hopefully we’ll get back in the habit of walking to the store about every night. We used to do that when we lived in Westport, and it did wonders for my waist. Plus, evening walks are just great. And they’ll be even better when we can carrying our baby around!
I checked out a bunch of woodworking books at the library (they’ve updated their collection a bit in the last few months), to refresh a little. I’m very excited about having actual space for a workshop! Right now I have basically a 6×4 space. Add a couple of large power tools and 24 square feet isn’t plentiful. I was only able to use one tool at a time, and whenever I needed to switch I would have to move one into the guest room and set up the other. Not too difficult with my 80 lb table saw. But a challenge with my 180 lb cast iron lathe. It’s a good lathe though, so I’m not complaining!
Next up on my list, I believe, is a bandsaw. Maybe a router. I’m not sure. And I’m no longer worried about getting big expensive tools either. Give me the cheap-o tools. At least then I’ll be able to do that function. I’m really looking forward to making non-rectangular surfaces! I have a great idea for a coffee table for the office. Can’t wait to make it!
