CLOSED!
Hoorah! We’re homeowners! We closed this morning without issue — barely! At the last minute the bank called and said there might be a problem because we were using the business account balance as part of our proof of funds (we had to have 6 months proof of funds since we went the stated-income route), and the account was in Jen’s name. What!? I found that incredibly sexist. Did they just assume that women couldn’t own a business? Jen is a 49% owner, her name is on the articles of incorporation, and she bloody well can write checks out of our business accounts — she’s the company CFO!! We got it all settled up though, finally, and then there was only one more problem.
We couldn’t find the bank! It was a bank we hadn’t ever been to before, so I found the address online and ran a mapquest on it. I printed out the maps and we drove out to the middle of nowhere — but we went exactly where the big bright red stars on the maps told us to! Then I inspected the map a little further and realized that mapquest hadn’t found our location at all, but had instead plopped a big bright red star on some random location — about 20 minutes from the bank, it turns out. So we were just shy of a half hour late to our closing.
Fortunately, everything went well after that. We signed all the lines, got our key, and drove over to the house and gave our family the big tour! Very exciting! Now the only one that hasn’t seen the house is Erin, who had to go to work today. Everbody agreed she will really like her room….we’re just going to have fun picking on her for being the last one to see it. Maybe we’ll make sure we get there first and then hide the cars in the garage and wait for her to show up. She’ll be so impatient, I bet she’ll have her nose up against the glass. Hehe….. Ok, maybe not. But it would be fun.
