there are still games?

I actually had a relatively free day! I did some work this morning (or rather, this-afternoon-shortly-following-when-I-woke-up, so it felt like morning….) but then I’ve had free time! Jen, Killy, and Erin are all gone to a church retreat, so I’ve been on my own all day. So I’ve actually been playing a computer game!

It’s a very good game, and very complicated. It’s called Capitalism II. I had a demo version of the first one a long time ago and really enjoyed it, and this one is even better than I remember the first one being. It’s a very challenging game, too. There’s just so much to it! It’s a simulation game, specifically a business simulation, although that makes it sound a lot less fun than it is. The idea is that you are a corporation and you can build retail stores, factories, farms, mines, etc. Basically anything you want. You can sell other people’s goods or you can create your own (and secure your product chain). The game covers retailing, manufacturing, advertising, branding, farming, real estate, the stock market, research & development, etc. There is such a level of detail that, for instance, you have to build inventory warehouses for crops (if you grow crops) because they only grow part of the year. And you can choose and hire your own CTO, or COO, etc. Or set the value of your dividends. Or train your employees. It’s all extremely complex.

Fortunately there is a really good series of ‘entrepreneur campaigns’ that act as tutorials to teach you the basics. So far I’ve completed four or five of these. Next up is “Research & Development” but I don’t think I’ll get there tonight.

I’m still coughing, but that’s the only thing wrong with me. But it’s enough that I’m pretty tired. Jen and Killy should be home soon — I wonder if I’ll last long after they do! Maybe we’ll start a movie or something and I’ll just fall asleep during it.
