we’re back!

Wow, what a vacation! Lots of relatives, lots of driving, lots of doting on Killy. It was lots of fun! It all went pretty much without incident, except at Granny’s house. We clogged up her toilet three times and Killy peed in her bed. We’ll see if she ever invites us back…. (we love you Granny!)

The drive was great, Killy handled travelling very, very well. The worst part of the trip was on the way back. I was desperate for a rest area, and we finally found one just on the northern side of the Kentucky / Tennessee border. Now just in case you weren’t aware, the area around Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois got a great lot of snow last week. But we hadn’t seen any sign of it yet. We had figured that it had plenty of time to melt. But as soon as we crossed the Kentucky line, as if the weather was paying attention to political delimitations, BAM there was snow. Not on the road, but we could see it. Or at least, we thought it wasn’t on the roads! Apparently while the snowplows had plowed the all-important exit ramps for the commercial areas, they had neglected to plow the rest areas. I took the rest area exit and suddenly, without a scrap of warning, went from a perfectly clear interstate to barrelling through five inches of slush and ice at 60 mph! I never lost control of the car (go me!) but it was…mmm… pretty bloody unnerving!

I hope everybody else had a wonderful vacation!
