people are dumb
How else would you explain why about half of all American’s believe that Iraq was involved in 9/11?
Now CNN has an article describing how high school students these days simply don’t know about the 1st amendment. Here’s what a study found:
- 1 out of 3 students, when read the full text of the 1st amendment, thought it granted too much freedom
- 1 out of 2 students thought that newspapers should gain government approval before publishing stories
- 1 out of 6 students thought it was against the law to express unpopular views
- 3 out of 4 students thought it was illegal to burn the U.S. flag
- 1 out of 2 students thought the government can restrict any indecent material on the internet
Scary. Really, really scary.
And, if you’re wondering, this is the result of a survey over about 100,000 students. Considering that most polls consider 1,500 people to be a good sampling, this survey involved an extremely significant sample.

That is really scary. I stole your summary for my journal.
