hello summer!
Wow, today was the first day this year I could even call summer-like. It was mid 70s and beautiful! We had to turn the AC on, I was burning up in the office.
Poor Killy had a rough night last night. Or maybe it’s poor us, since it didn’t seem to bother Killy. He’s tired now, though. Craaanky.
I’m going to be experimenting with my blog over the new few days I think. (that’s the goal, at least) Wordpress has released version 1.5 and it’s supposed to have a big upgrade with it’s extendability. If possible, I’d like to convert all of my tweaks into bonafide plugins, so that I could upgrade easier in the future — and I’d be able to share the plugins with other people, too!
I’d also be able to integrate other people’s plugins with less risk of tampering with my own tweaks. This is a Good Thing, because there are a couple of CAPTCHA plugins I’d like to implement. CAPTCHA is the security step with the instructions “type the word you see in this box” and you see a word in warped text that would be hard for an automated system to read. I’d be adding this to the comments box to try and avoid all the comment spam that this blog gets.
The version of WordPress that I use now handles spam fairly well, in that it’s pretty rare that a piece of comment spam actually gets posted. But all the blocked spam comments get shoved into a moderation system, so I still have to deal with them. I’d guess it to be about 100+ a day. It hasn’t been so bad since I tweaked the blog a little to enable a mass-delete. But it’s still a pain. Supposedly WordPress 1.5 has a more elegant solution. I can’t wait to try it!
