Pixar
I went to a neat presentation today that was done by some folks from Pixar. It was at one of the high schools in the area (boy, they have big high schools here….) so it was 99.5% high school students, 0.2% faculty, 0.2% local news crews, and me. But it was a neat presentation. One of the presenters was one of the three directors for Prince of Egypt before moving on to Pixar, and another one was a story artist that had worked on Spiderman, The Incredibles, and a few others. They talked about the importance of visual storytelling, and used samples from a lot of popular movies. It was very cool. Then there was a demo reel done my the high school students and some of it was actually pretty good. Of course there was a lot that wasn’t, and I recognized a lot that looked impressive but that I knew was just the work of clever plugins….but that’s beside the point. The point is, why didn’t I go to a high school that had an animation class! I hope these kids appreciate how lucky they are.
