women: not welcome on ground
Wait a second here, this story is about American women!? Yup. I had to read it twice to convince myself that yes, this story really is about American women. You know, America. That “land of the free, home of the brave” country? Except that apparently only applies to some people.
The House Armed Services Committee voted 61-1 FOR a proposal that will bar women from ground combat positions! Yes, you read that right! As in, “You are a women, therefore we, the government of the United States, in all our male chauvinistic glory, will keep you from doing something that you would have been able to do if you were born with a Y chromosome. Tough luck, babe. Here’s a towel, do my dishes. No wait, let me slap you with it first.”
I can just picture President Bush signing this one. I wish this had come up before the 2004 election.
