Jen tagged me :)

10 years ago I was: 17, and just starting my senior year in high school. I was first trumpet in the band, captain of the science MACC team (academic competition), and going to the regional Governor’s school, where I men Jen. I had just finished working for the summer in the warehouse of Heilig-Meyers (a furniture store), and glad I was finished with it. This turned out to be a pretty influential year in terms of my interests, because this was when I had my first (and, so far, only) programming class. I started getting interested in mixing programming and graphics, and had my first encounter with HTML.

5 years ago I was: 22 and was living my first year as a bonefide autonomous human being. I had graduated from the University of Chicago just months ago and had one of my few full-time, on-site web design positions. I look back at my creations at the time and laugh (at least, when I’m not crying), but I was enjoying myself — except for the three hours I spent in the car commuting to and from work! It wasn’t until a few months later that I started doing more job juggling and gaining all of the stress and insanity that comes with working as a freelancer sometimes-from-home-sometimes-on-site, which is much worse than just working at home, especially when you live by yourself! In the meantime, I was learning about wine, playing a computer game here and there, and living in a kick butt Chicago flat.

1 year ago I was: 26 and starting a new chapter in my life: I was a new dad, and now had my own house! I was getting pretty good at juggling all of the projects I had with my business, and now was having to learn to insert time for learning to be a dad as well.

Yesterday:was a crazy, crazy day. I broke, then fixed the lawn mower, and installed a new discharge bag on it. I replaced the air filter in our furnace. I removed a fan/light fixture and installed a new chandalier light fixture for our dining room. I fixed the dishwasher. And I mowed the front and some of the back yards. I was ready for sleep!

5 snacks I enjoy: Icy pops, peanut butter on graham crackers, peanut butter on celery, cheetos, and ice cream.

5 songs I know all the words to: I don’t know the words to any song. Sad but true.

5 things I would do with $100 million: pay off all debts for us and our immediate families, provide for Jen’s and my parents to retire, buy nice huge house (not sure where), send donations to NPR, ACLU, and the EFF, and fund a research facility that would concentrate on alternative energy.

5 places I would run away to: New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti, Italy, Japan.

5 things I would never wear: speedos, wife-beater, overalls, pants that purposefully sag so that you can see half my butt, or anything with a corporate logo on it that I wasn’t consciously trying to advertise

5 favorite tv shows: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dilbert, John Doe, The Simpsons, X-Files.

5 bad habits: Miscalculating estimated times to do something, interrupting people, being a poor correspondant, staying up too late, spending more time writing in my blog than I should ;)

5 biggest joys: Jen, Killy, creating new things, seeking out knowledge, putzing around on the internet

5 favorite toys: computer/internet, um…. uh…. what else is there?

5 fictional characters I would date: Ellie Arroway (from Contact), Sophie Neveu (The DaVinci Code), Fred (the smart gal from Angel), Dana Scully (X-Files), Abigail Chase (from National Treasure)

5 people I’d like to see do this quiz: Hmm. Jen took all my people! No fair!
