Introducing Ellie!

Ellandra Llewellyn Sharp Woods was born this morning at 3:54am, weighing 8lbs 4.6oz and measuring 19.5″. Jen was in labor for only 2hrs and 15 minutes! And only the last 15-20 minutes were active pushing (the difficult part). Compare that to Killy’s birth, of a 7hr labor and 2.5 hrs of pushing. Wow! If Jen keep improving at this rate, I’ll need to get an EMT certification before next time…. Jen was moving along so fast that they nurses had to call an ER doc because the midwife hadn’t gotten there yet. The ER doc was there for four or five pushes, and then the midwife showed up. It was a brand new midwife at the practice we go to and we hadn’t met her yet (our normal midwife couldn’t secure childcare for tonight). She showed up and started to introduce herself to Jen. Jen cut her off with a shake of her head and a long grunt, stating a push. The midwife quickly traded places with the ER doc and out came Ellie! Before we had even had a chance for introductions! (she turned out to be really nice)
Ellie is doing just wonderfully, and so is Jen. They’re both doing so well, in fact, that we were discharged from the hospital this afternoon! In fact, we were in the car on the way back home only twelve hours after Jen woke up with an intense contraction the night before, starting labor. Go Jen!

She’s lovely, David! Congrats to you and Jen (especially to Jen for such a quick and easy delivery). I’m glad you held on to the name for her. It’s a beautiful name (which I may have told you before). Of course, now you and Jen have to come up with something completely new for the next one.
