ready for learning
Visual Studio 2005 came in today (man, I love next-day shipping, it was about 18 hours between order and arrival). Even though I’d never want to focus primarily on Windows server programming, I’m excited about learning .net 2.0 and the new IDE. Visual Studio has always had phenomenal IDEs (Integrated Development Environment, it’s an application that makes it easier to code than, say, a text editor). I’m also excited because in addition to the .NET work, I can also write standard stand-alone software. C#, J#, and VB.NET can create .NET software, and C++ can output to native code. I have C++ and C# for the older VS IDE, the .NET 2003 version, so this means an update for my existing applications. Not that I do an incredible amount of work in C++ or C# to create stand-alone software, but I occassionally write tools that will automate this-or-that in what I’m doing.
